Meet Maui Realtor Bob Staples

As a Maui Realtor

My resource center offers a well organized, tailored list of resources specific to the needs of anyone buying or selling property on Maui. I have taken the time to research and include only Internet sites offering quality, relevant content and providers of services known to offer quality service here on Maui.

The knowledge and skills Bob brings into real estate after a successful 30 year career in business, are substantial.  His proficiencies included communications, human relations, accounting, finance and financial analysis, information technology and organizational management.  At the core of his success was the ability to analyze problems, develop solutions and manage their implementation.  As a CFO and VP of Finance and Operations, Bob was continually performance focused.  Results and how they were achieved mattered.  To thrive in that environment took insight, a heightened intuitive ability and knowledge in multiple disciplines, all strengths that have served him well as a Realtor® on Maui.

“I hope it is evident from the content in this 100% custom designed website that I bring a unique level of competency to my role as a Realtor®, and the willingness to spend the extra effort it takes to produce superior results.”  The real estate industry is currently in a state of growth and change, like many industries, driven by such things as the rapid evolution of computers, the internet, media broadcasting, telecommunications and a generally better informed public who are more aware of the role of real estate in their overall wealth accumulation and estate planning.  Bob’s goal is to create a model for success in the resort real estate market of tomorrow.

“Perhaps the strongest connection I have to many of my clients is the path that brought me to Maui.  Like many of them, I played key roles in the companies I worked for during my high tech business career.  Through hard work, the support of key people in my life, particularly my wife, our willingness to take some calculated risks and a series of fortuitous circumstances, in 2000 we found ourselves living our dream here on Maui.  It was an exciting life change for both of us, one neither of us has regretted.”

Bob understands the desire to reward one’s self following a career of hard work that has spanned decades, the dedication it has required and the desire to celebrate that success.  Also, like us, many of Bob’s clients find real estate on Maui an attractive investment alternative, a way of diversifying with the positive side effects that come from warm sand, sunshine, ocean views and tropical waters.

Despite living in Paradise, Bob’s personality demanded a career challenge which is why he chose to become a Maui Realtor® and investor in Maui real estate.  “So, please, allow me the privilege of discussing your objectives in searching for a piece of Paradise.  You will find me eager to help you begin to turn your dream into a reality by finding a truly beautiful island home or investment property.

More on Bob's Background

Bob is a native of New England with a BS from the University of New Hampshire in 1970 and an MBA from Northeastern University in Boston in 1977, concentrating in finance, accounting, operations management and marketing. “I spent the majority of my 30 year professional career as a corporate VP and CFO responsible for finance, human relations, administration, information technology and operations, primarily with high tech companies in Colorado and California.”  Eighteen of those years were with high tech venture backed start-ups.  In the start-up world, one learns quickly that being an executive often means carrying out ones own instruction, or, as Bob puts it, “I’d be involved in strategic planning one minute and taking out the trash the next.”

Married in 1968, Bob became a father in 1973, a son, Patrick and again in 1975, a daughter, Coleen.  “My son and daughter have always been a major part of my life; they have achieved in ways I never dreamed of and been a constant source of pride and inspiration.”  Bob’s daughter, Coleen, recently graduated from Harvard Medical School and School of Public Health with dual degrees and now remains at Harvard for her Residency in Orthopedic Surgery.  His son, Patrick, graduated from Pepperdine Law School with a specialty in Entertainment Law and now works as a corporate counsel for Warner Bros. Records.  Recently, Patrick and his girlfriend of five years and fellow law school graduate, Lindsey Laughlin, announced their engagement.

Bob met his wife, Tamara, in Boulder, Colorado in 1987 and they married in 1992.  Tamara and Bob remained in Boulder until 1995, when an exciting opportunity took them to San Jose, California.  Hard work, an IPO, punctuated by some great weekends in Napa and Sonoma valleys, occasional trips to see the ‘kids’ in Southern Cal and vacations in Hawaii made up the next five years.  “It was those vacations in Hawaii that became the defining influence on where we decided to spend the reminder of our lives.  Always loving the sea, above and below, we decided Maui was where we wanted to call home.”

Bob and his wife built their first home in Kula and moved there in 2000. Regretfully, they lost their beloved dog, Cita, to the impact of Hawaii’s arcane Quarantine law. But, as adversity often leads to opportunity, they found two new loves. Once again, their lives were made more joyful through the antics of their two new Papillions, Wyatt (Earp) and Jesse (James); two truly loveable hombres who specialize in filling each day with happiness. “We moved from Kula to Kihei in 2003 to be closer to those interests and activities that had become the predominate part of our lives. For us, the life change of moving to Maui has been a very positive experience. Each, in our own way, my wife and I have grown as individuals, developing a greater understanding of ourselves, putting ourselves to new challenges and finally giving ourselves permission to experience joy.”

Personal Interests

Living on Maui reawakens personal interests. “In our mainland lives, my wife and I were intense about doing our jobs, which left little time for personal interests. But, Maui beckons one to experience its simple pleasures and natural beauty. And so, we love morning walks along Keawakapu Beach, followed, on weekends, by breakfast at Five Palms; we look forward to the weekly pilgrimage to Costco; diving Maui’s fascinating coastline, with its coral reefs, caves, lava tubes, sunken relics, fascinating species of tropical fish and the thrill of being approached by Manta Rays, reef sharks, Sea Turtles and, on those very rare occasions, a humpback whale.” Other interests include exercise, swimming, photography (above and under the water); and, oh yes, working on the computer. “One of my happiest days on Maui was the day I learned I could employ all my computer skills while working at real estate and earning money, all in the middle of the Pacific—it doesn’t get any better than that!”
